Designers to revitalise Gosford’s City Centre
Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly, and Gosford City Council Mayor, Clr Chris Holstein, today officially opened The Gosford Challenge Design Charrette.
Mr Kelly said the Charette will run for six days from today during which plans for a revitalised Gosford City Centre will be drawn up in an intensive collaborative design process.
“The aim of the Gosford Challenge is to revitalise the urban centre and waterfront, providing the community with areas that can be better utilised and enjoyed.
“The Charette has been influenced by workshops held earlier this year, and will now involve 27 local stakeholders liaising with experts in the design process”, Mr Kelly said.
Professor Patrick Condon from the University of British Columbia’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture will conduct the Charette.
“Professor Condon has participated in more than 20 Charettes in America and Britain, and he will be ably assisted by local designers”, Clr Holstein said.
“This process encourages community participation to determine the best use of land”, Ms Marie Andrews said.
“The partnership between State and Local Governments will ensure redevelopment is managed holistically to create an attractive waterfront precinct for our future”, Mr Kelly said.
Renowned architect Phillip Cox’s design company has been appointed as Strategic Design Partner, and a panel of 6 development partners will include Baxter O’Hara, Lend Lease Development, Mariners FC Trust, Mirvac, Commercial hq and Stronach.
“This design collaboration will ensure the revitalisation delivers a sustainable economic and management framework that will set the future path for Gosford”, Ms Andrews said.

I love the new vision for Gosford! Bring it on, and the sooner the better. I love the canals, the wider streets, the whole cosmopolitan atmosphere. The future looks very rosy if this is what Gosford is going to look like!
