The Gosford Challenge
Draft Masterplan released, First Initiatives announced
The Gosford City Centre Draft Masterplan; Our City, Our Destiny, was officially launched for public exhibition this morning by project sponsors Gosford City Council and the NSW Land
and Property Management Authority at a special function in Gosford Council Chambers.

Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly said today that the revitalisation of Gosford was a high priority project for the Kenneally Government and that he was delighted that this very important project had now reached the stage of public exhibition. Along with the launch of the draft Masterplan was the announcement of five key project initiatives to begin in 2010 that will see the Gosford Challenge a step closer towards the long awaited renewal of the Gosford City Centre.

The five key initiatives include;
1. A $2.5million dollar investment from Gosford City Council to begin upgrading the city centre’s public realm.
2. Council reinforced its commitment to installing a water mining dual-reticulation scheme.
3. Upgrading of access points from the Gosford City Centre to more than 100 kilometres of walking tracks in Rumbalara.
4. NSW Land and Property Management Authority is committing resources and funds to ensure that the Masterplan when adopted can be successfully implemented, particularly in
respect of Crown foreshore lands.
5. A commitment from NSW Transport and Infrastructure to undertake a Transport Management and Accessibility Plan.

Compiled by The Cox Group, the Strategic Design Partner for the Gosford Challenge, the Draft Masterplan covers an area of approximately 345 hectares defined as the ‘Gosford City
Centre’ and sets out in text, photographs, plans and drawings a future Gosford reflecting the aspirations of the community.

Mayor of Gosford City, Councillor Chris Holstein, declared the unveiling of the Draft Masterplan as a proud moment for everyone involved in The Gosford Challenge, especially
the members of the community who gave their time to contribute.

“I would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support. Their input and feedback will help us to deliver the Gosford we all want to see.

“I would also like to thank the Minister for Lands, Tony Kelly and the NSW Land and Property Management Authority for their support of The Gosford Challenge and for bringing together separately owned parcels of government land to enlarge the potential of the project”, said Clr Holstein.

Tony Kelly, Minister for Lands, said that these five early implementation initiatives are an important part of the whole process.

“The people of Gosford and the Central Coast can look forward to the progressive roll out of initiatives of increasing importance and magnitude. I hope the outstanding community
support to date will be ongoing into the next exciting stage”, said Mr. Kelly.

Director of The Cox Group, Ian Connolly, said the extraordinary level of community engagement and input had been a new experience for himself and his colleagues.

“This level of community consultation and support results in the Cox Group being able to place this draft plan in the public arena with tremendous confidence”, Mr. Connolly said.

Our City, Our Destiny – The Gosford City Centre Draft Masterplan will be available on public exhibition in its present draft form between Friday 18 December 2009 and Friday 5 February 2010.

Key elements of the draft plan will be on static display at Gosford’s Imperial Centre throughout the exhibition period.
The Gosford Challenge team will be available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and
